On May 25, 2025, a soul-stirring Dastangoi performance took place at Urdu Academy, Delhi, featuring artists Sahil Sharma, Pooja Singhvi and Shadab Khan. Directed by the celebrated Dastangoi artist and director Syed Sahil Agha, the event revived classic to modern tales through captivating voice modulation and expressive narration. **Pooja Singhvi performed the "Dastan-e-Bulleh Shah", portraying the life and spiritual teachings of Bulleh Shah—a revered Sufi poet and philosopher of the Mughal era known as the "Poet of the People."
Pooja Trained at the National School of Drama, Delhi. She has been active in theatre for over 5 years and worked in Tollywood films, web series, and commercials. Crowned Miss Empress Telangana, she has also appeared in catalogue shoots and hoardings for jewelry brands. As a dubbing artist, she brings joy to storytelling by giving voice to children’s animated stories for the past 6 years.
**Sahil Sharma performed "The Last Mughal", adapted from the famous Urdu book "Begumaat ke Aansoo" by Khwaja Hasan Nizami. The tale recounted the heartbreaking experiences of Mughal royalty after the 1857 Uprising—when they were forced to flee palaces and survive in poverty-stricken streets.
Sahil is a professionally trained actor with 9 years of theatre experience, holding a Master’s degree in Theatre from Central University of Uttarakhand and a diploma in Acting from Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, Delhi. He has worked with several renowned directors like K.S. Rajendran, Sohaila Kapur, and Syed Sahil Agha, performing in more than 25 productions using Stanislavsky’s method acting.
**Shadab Khan performed "Dastan Buzurg Begum", a humorous and touching story of a young man searching for the perfect life partner.
With over 11 years of theatre experience, Shadab is also a diploma holder from Shri Ram Centre, where he worked with the repertory company for six years. He has collaborated with top Indian theatre directors and has acted in documentaries by National Award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri. Shadab will appear in the upcoming feature film “Pyre”, along with roles in web series and TV commercials.
This Dastangoi performance breathed new life into an age-old art form, reminding audiences of the magic of oral storytelling. It reinforced how traditional narratives can still resonate deeply with modern audiences, especially children.
